About the name “Stingray Writing”
and what it says about how I work.
Hi, I’m Brittany — the owner, strategist, writer, and editing brain behind Stingray Writing.
Most days, you’ll find me behind two giant monitors (or let’s be honest — my phone), headphones on, cold coffee close by, deep in thought about voice, messaging, or how to untangle a client’s "we need to say everything" draft into something someone might actually want to read.
I’ve spent a decade writing for organizations of all sizes—from global brands to grassroots nonprofits. But when I finally decided to put my name on the door, I didn’t want to name my business after me. I wanted a name that captured how I like to work.
That’s where the stingray comes in.
So... Why a Stingray?
Stingrays are quiet. Strategic. Elegant. They don’t thrash around for attention or attack people for no reason. Stingrays glide, using their senses to tune into what’s really happening beneath the surface.
That’s how I approach writing and storytelling, too. I’m not here to make noise for the sake of it. I’m here to help you communicate with purpose — clearly, powerfully, and in a way that feels true to who you are.
Stingrays can swim solo or in massive groups called fevers (which is seriously the best word). Same here. I often work alone, but I regularly collaborate with incredible designers, photographers, and videographers to bring big ideas to life.
And yes — stingrays can also deliver a sting. I think that’s part of it, too. My writing is thoughtful, but it’s not soft. If you need a message that cuts through the noise, I’m here for that.
How I Got Here
I’ve been writing professionally for a decade, but I’ve been collecting words since I could hold a pencil. My career has taken me through my first romance novel (I was 8 years old… it was very Jane Austen-y), tech startups, marketing agencies, and now into creative partnerships with mission-driven people who want to say what they mean and connect with the people who matter.
The kind of work I do now — messaging, campaign strategy, storytelling — isn’t loud or flashy. But it moves people. And that’s the kind of impact I care about most.
A Bit About Me

I believe words are tools, not decoration. And that good writing can do more than sell — it can shift the way people feel and act.
Here’s a look at my bookshelves. This is how hard I believe in good writing.

What I’m Working On Now
Right now, I’m channeling a lot of this quiet-but-focused energy into a long-term campaign package for nonprofits and purpose-driven teams.
If you’re a nonprofit leader who wants to show up with intention, from year-end giving through Give to Lincoln Day and beyond, you’ll want to keep an eye out.
More soon.
In the meantime, check out my recent work.
